Lobster Ball

Issue 33

1000 guests, 500 lobsters and the voice of a soul sensation will be raising vital funds for Daisy Chain this spring…

It’s become one of the most talked about nights on the North East’s social calendar.

Every year, around 1000 guests flock to Hardwick Hall Hotel to eat, drink and be merry at one of the region’s most popular charity events. The 2018 Lobster Ball will be held at the County Durham hotel on Friday, April 27 and once again aims to raise as much cash as possible for Stocktonbased autism charity, Daisy Chain.

Guests will enjoy a four-course lobster surf and turf menu created by the award-winning chefs from The Rib Room Steakhouse and Grill, along with complimentary wine, beer and lager throughout the night.

Each year we create what we believe is a fantastic night with incredible food and show-stopping entertainment, in the hope of making as much money as we can to boost local charities.

And along with fine food and drink, they will also be able to dance the night away with music from one of the biggest stars of the soul era. Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge will headline this year’s event. The singer found fame with her family group during the 1970s and 80s, before leaving to go solo.

But as the voice which defined a generation of soul, she will be belting out the band’s biggest hits including We are Family and He’s the Greatest Dancer, as she is joined by an eight-piece live band.

Singer Jerome Remblance will also be taking to the stage, along with the Jukebox Rogues, a four-piece covers band who perform hits from the likes of Bruno Mars, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, The Four Tops and more. And as well as getting Lost in Music, guests will also be able to enjoy a fashion show for both women and men. Newcastle-based Dressi will be hitting the catwalk with an assortment of its stunning collection of gowns and dresses for all occasions. The men, meanwhile, can grab inspiration from a number of pieces from Durham’s Woven Gentlemen’s Outfitters, which sells a huge selection of suits, formal wear and other things aimed at the discerning gent.

The Lobster Ball is held annually at the County Durham hotel and aims to raise valuable cash for the region’s good causes. Last year it pulled in £35,933 for Daisy Chain, and since it began back in 2006, it has raised around £300,000.

“The aim of this event has always been to raise as much money as we possibly can to support an amazing charity,” explained John Adamson, owner of Hardwick Hall Hotel. “Each year we create what we believe is a fantastic night with incredible food and show-stopping entertainment, in the hope of making as much money as we can to boost local charities.

“Once again we are supporting Daisy Chain, a charity we are very passionate about. Daisy Chain supports the families of young people with autism, helping thousands of people every week across the Tyne Valley area.

“I believe we have lined up an incredible night, and with an artist as high profile and talented as Kathy Sledge, plus our exciting fashion shows, we know the guests are going to have a great time, while helping support a wonderful local charity at the same time.”

The 2018 Lobster Ball is supported by a number of sponsors including Great Annual Savings, Heineken and Aston Martin Newcastle.
